Laboratory Short Lab Report Guidelines: Stoichiometry

General Requirements

Front Page: Data and Results

Sample Calculations

Perform the following calculations on the lab data sheet at the bottom of the page after the data. No need to type these calculations:

  1. From the mass of Na2CO3 used, calculate the theoretical yield of NaCl (expected amount).
  2. Using the mass of NaCl collected (actual yield), calculate the % yield for the reaction.
%yield = actual yield (g) theoretical yield (g) × 100 %

Note: If your % yield is less than 90% or over 100%, provide one relevant explanation for your result.

Back Page: Answer the Questions

No need to answer pre-lab and post-lab questions from the lab manual.

Lab Question: to be answered at the back of the data sheet.

Consider the following unbalanced equation:

Na2CO3 + HCl → NaCl + CO2 + H2O

Question: If a student uses 0.4224 g of sodium carbonate for this reaction, what volume (mL) of CO2 gas will be produced at STP if the %yield reaction is 98.0%?

Note:Submit your lab report at the beginning of the next lab period. There will be a 1 mark deduction for each math or calculation error. Late submissions incur a 20% penalty.

Reminder: This document is a guideline for your lab report. Follow the instructions carefully to ensure proper submission and grading.
